Pest Management Handbook

Pest Management Handbook

Pest Management Handbook. I'm Greg Martin with today's Fruit Grower Report.

An updated publication called the Pest Management Guide for Grapes in Washington is out and available for producers of wine grapes. Gwen Hoheisel with WSU Extension says there have been some changes in the guide.

HOHEISEL: It's updated annually and this year, like all years, we try to focus on making it more user friendly. and so we try yo have tables in there for some efficacy, some pesticide resistance, some basic information on biology and then this year we've tried to separate out even some of the diseases and insect tables and make them a little bit easier for growers.

The book is packed with great information for producers looking for solutions but it's not all-inclusive.

HOHEISEL: It's a one-stop shop for recommendation on pests that we think need to be controlled. So there's some pests out there that are minor pests that, yes, happen every once in a awhile or are incidental pests that we don't put in chemical recommendations for because they come infrequently. It also doesn't have every chemical. It has chemicals that we've tested and have some information about their efficacy.

The guide is available for download from the WSU Extension site at pubs.wsu.edu.

That's today's Fruit Grower Report. I'm Greg Martin on the Ag Information Network of the West.
