This is the Fruit Grower Report; I’m Susan Allen. Sustainability, we love to toss that word around solely in an environmental context but forget that the true meaning can be a company that has provided jobs, products and supported the Tree Fruit Industry for a Century. The iconic Del Monte brand, celebrated their 100th birthday earlier this month. Mike Fuerst the Director of Fruit Operations for Del Monte told me about the event.

Fuerst: We had about a hundred or one hundred and thirty or so growers I believe, we celebrated everything from one year of service up to 80 years of service with some of our growers here in the Valley and down in the Hood River Area. It was a great day to bring our growers up , celebrate 100 years and talk about the operation.

Industry relations have been a sustaining support for this company.

And again Susan I would just say that we appreciate your support. The Good Fruit Grower obviously ran a nice article on the 100 years. Being a 25-year employee myself I can tell you that when we bring those type of relationships together it leads to a wonderful event. We had growers who have sent bouquets; written Thank You cards, sent flowers all in their appreciation of being part of something special. In today’s world to say you been at something for 100 years and been successful is pretty astonishing, and we couldn’t have done it without the community, the growers and our consumers that are, as you say, loyal to the brand and appreciate the iconic brand of Del Monte Food.

Wow Thank you Mike! And Thank you Del Monte for great 100 years.
