With Vine to Win Wednesday, I’m Susan Allen. What made Napa Valley special when I lived there in the early 80’s is what makes Newberg and so many of or other NW wine regions amazing today! The many Micro-boutiques. Back then we called them “small family owned wineries. Bells Up, whose first wines were released last year, will be the featured winery of the month for October in at the renowned wine cellar restaurant, Subterra in Newberg. Named not only for the road the winery is on , but the dramatic moment in classical music when French horn players lift the bells up . For Musician and now winemaker Dave Specter, his winery is his “Bells Up” moment. He tells the wines Subterra has selected:

SPECTER: They are featuring three, actually there is a fourth they have had on glass pour for the last month or so. The one that they have had and I believe still do have is our 2015 Prelude Rosé of Pinot Noir It’s a fuller bodied Rose. 100 percent pinot noir. Now the three that we are going to be featuring for next month is our Pinot Blanc; we call that the 2014Rhapsody Pinot Blanc , our Pinot Blanc is an unoaked and an excellent pairing with seafood, and Subterra, of course, has a lot of seafood offerings.

The two other wine selections include: The 2013 Titan Willamette Valley AVA Pinot Noir and 2014 Firebird Walla Walla Valley AVA Syrah. Bells Up produces handcrafted, classically-styled Oregon Pinot Noir and Dave will be at Subterra to pour tastings of all three wines at Subterra on Friday, October 7 from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m as part of Newberg’s Artwalk.
