With today's Fruit Grower Report, I'm Bob Larson. They were the first and continue to be recognized for being a leader in the produce industry.

For the ninth straight year, Wenatchee's Stemilt Growers has been named 2016 Role Model for the Produce and Health Foundation's Fruits and Veggies "More Matters" campaign ...

BRIANNA SHALES ... "For us, I mean, it's definitely a kudos, a job-well-done, so we appreciate the nod of recognition. However, for us, produce for better health stands for increasing consumption. And that's really what we see at Stemilt as our path to continuing to grow apples, pears and cherries and making our business sustainable is getting people to enjoy more fresh fruit."

Stemilt's Brianna Shales says it was and still is an honor ...

BRIANNA SHALES ... "Well, we're really proud to have been the very first role model. When they started the recognition, we were the very first one in the non-retail environment, so not a grocery store. Which is very exciting for us and we've continued that path of support towards them for nine consecutive years. So, we're proud to be the longest produce supplier in that recognition, but it's also just something that we believe in so that's why we continue to support it."

Shales says the Stemilt family couldn't be more proud to support a cause like making healthier food decision.
