Hurricane Harvey has kept Cattlemen busy in Texas.

Richard Thorpe with the Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association, and says the state herd was hit hard by the hurricane. But believe it or not, it could have been much worse.

Thorpe says the National Weather Service warnings gave most ranchers time to evacuate their animals and move them to higher ground.

and while we clearly don't need to worry about hurricanes here - there are lessons local ranchers can learn from those in Texas... Such as having a plan in place on how to prepare and deal with tragic weather conditions on your ranch. From moving livestock to a safe locations, to working with the state to receive government benefits, and making sure you have the fuel you need to continue to operate.
