11/14/05 Tree fruit insurance seminars

Tomorrow afternoon starts a two day series of seminars discussing various crop insurance options for tree fruit growers. KELLY: The Wenatchee one will be November 15th. On the 16th, we'll be in Yakima in the morning and into Pasco in the afternoon. That's Dan Kelly of the Washington Growers Clearing House. His organization sponsors the seminars. The program is funded through a U.S.D.A. Risk Management Agency grant obtained by the Clearing House and various potato grower organizations in the Northwest states for use in education. And according to Kelly, the seminars are follow ups to programs presented last year. KELLY: The insurance seminars we had in 2004 was with the AGR, which is Adjusted Gross Revenue, and now there's a new product called A.G.R. lite crop insurance. So there's a number of people who don't know about the newer product. And there are still people that are not clear on any of the crop insurance products. Apple crop insurance programs will also be covered during the three seminars. And presentations will include a review of insurance tools to help growers to determine the most appropriate coverage for their needs.
