With today's Fruit Grower Report, I'm Bob Larson. Another year has passed and while work is being done to settle them, the trade wars continue, creating another year of

uncertainty for growers.

U.S. Representative Dan Newhouse says it's a problem our ag industry is all too aware of ...

NEWHOUSE ... "You know, I just had representatives from the hort industry in my office yesterday. We discussed at length the impacts to growers, to the industry throughout the state, throughout the northwest."

And when it comes to our northwest growers, he says it's not just China that they rely on ...

NEWHOUSE ... "We are in a tough spot right now without those markets, we truly are. Not just the far east, but also Mexico as well, you know, is a huge part of our destination for apples and other fruits."

But, Newhouse says the talks are ongoing and he's doing what he can to make sure negotiators know what it means to Washington growers ...

NEWHOUSE ... "It's key. You know, the negotiations going on with China right now couldn't be more important for the state of Washington. I can't tell you when this is going to be done, but I can tell you that I've been in contact numerous times with our trade negotiators, explaining to them the importance of getting this done as soon as possible. The farmers cannot withstand another marketing season without having these markets available. They recognize that. They realize what's at stake."

Newhouse says it's not easy, but a lot of positive things can happen.

Tune in tomorrow for more on the Newhouse take on trade negotiations and what it means to Washington producers.
