05/05/06 Award for Pear Bureau

Award for Pear Bureau. I'm Greg Martin with today's Fruit Grower Report. The Pear Bureau Northwest recently attended the 81st Canadian Produce Marketing Association (CPMA) Annual Convention and Trade Show held in Vancouver, BC. Kevin Moffitt, president and CEO of the Pear Bureau Northwest says this is an important show. MOFFITT: The Canadian Produce Marketing Association Meeting and Convention are held every year. It's a very important show for the pear industry and the Pear Bureau has been attending with a booth for many, many years, probably more than 20. This is a show where we can meet all of the Canadian wholesalers and retailers in one place. And this year for the first time they had a contest for the best booth awards at the show. This was the first time they had done that. And out of the 200 booths that were shown the Pear Bureau won the best inline booth. Moffitt says it was especially nice to win this award during the Pear Bureau's 75th anniversary. MOFFITT: It is nice to have that recognition after 75 years. You know we believe we are still going strong and getting stronger as a pear industry. The Pear Bureau was formed in 1931 and it just shows how the Washington and Oregon pear growers have been working well together. A lot of cooperation within this industry and we're very pleased and proud to have 75 years under our belt and are looking forward to our centennial year. That's today's Fruit Grower Report. I'm Greg Martin on the Northwest Ag Information Network.
