01/31/05 Farm Bureau`s Young Farmers and Ranchers

Like any industry there always have to be newcomers to replace those who leave and retire. It's that way in farming and ranching and there's where the Farm Bureau's Young Farmer and Rancher Program, or YFR comes in. It allows Farm Bureau members between the ages of 17 and 35 an opportunity to develop leadership skills, to compete, to become involved in their local communities. There are probably as many reasons why people join YFR, as there are members. YFR MEMBERS "Its just all been positive. I don't have one negative think that I could even think of." "I just really like the idea of this not just being a collegiate club. Its something that we do after we leave college." "When I'm done I'm hoping my kids step out the door knowing a lot more about agriculture." "Being able to work with my dad. I want my little boy to have the same experiences I've had." The Young Farmer and Rancher program involves many family activities on a county, state and national level. Throughout the month of February you'll meet YFR committee members and some YFR members honored by their peers for their contributions to agriculture. Voice of Idaho Agriculture Bill Scott
