07/14/05 Canyon County to sue over illegal aliens

Canyon County commissioners have hired a Chicago law firm and told attorney Howard Foster to file a lawsuit against several local businesses that employ illegal aliens. Commissioner Robert Vasquez says those businesses have violated RICO, the Racketeering Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act by hiring the undocumented workers. VASQUEZ "Business and corporations have begun to mandate if you will American immigration policy and part of that is affecting labor and our economics and certainly the law of the land." Vasquez says that illegal aliens are taking money that should be going to the citizens of Canyon County. VASQUEZ "From our medical indigent welfare just for Canyon County its 600 some thousand dollars that's on top of the additional funds that we pay out for those illegal aliens that we hold in the county jail that require medical care also because that comes out of a separate line item." The federal law that Canyon County is using was passed 35 years ago to fight the Mafia but since then it's been used in lawsuits against cigarette manufacturers, abortion protestors and the US Forest Service.
