09/19/05 Salmon workshop set for October 4, 5

There are serious disagreements about salmon recover and they include dam breaching, spills, flow, harvesting, judges and courts, just about any social or cultural aspect you can think of. The Northwest Power and Conservation Council teamed up with the Idaho Council on Industry and the Environment to host a two day workshop, October 4th and 5th in Boise. ICIE's Pat Barclay was also involved in a similar workshop five years ago that focused on existing salmon and habitat recovery efforts. BARCLAY "There have been new studies; there's been developments in technology that are being used. There are court cases that are influencing what's being done. So we felt it was time to have a follow up so we have Practical Paths to Salmon Recovery part two." Barclay's goal is education, not only for federal, state and local officials who deal with these issues but. BARCLAY "Stakeholders and people in the general public who read some in the newspaper about these issues, have something at stake but maybe can't always go to conferences that cost a hundred or two hundred dollars." If you're interested go to the Idaho Council on Industry and the Environment website at www.icie.org for information and a registration form or call the office in Boise at 336-8508.
