Wolf compensation

The Office of Species Conservation made a bold move in Idaho to help out ranchers who were hit by wolves and I had a chat with Britney Hurst of the Idaho cattle Association about the rules and regs.

 

The Office of Species Conservation (OSC) has funding from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (Service) to compensate Idaho livestock producers for livestock killed by wolves.  The Office of Species Conservation is now accepting applications for compensation for verified livestock losses due to wolves that occurred during the 2016 calendar year.  The deadline for compensation applications is January 31, 2017. 

 

Additionally, OSC has funds remaining to off-set the costs of wolf-depredation prevention projects implemented by livestock producers. Depredation prevention funding will be allocated on a first-come-first-served basis. As a condition of receiving funding, each applicant must show documentation of a 50% funding match. This can be in the form of cash or in-kind contributions.
