It's crazy how people can differ in their opinions. If I'm not mistaken, and very ironically, the one item that Hillary and the President agreed on during their debates was that the Trans Pacific Partnership was not something they endorsed. But when you talk to agricultural people, they wanted to see it come to be. The Donald said NAFTA and TPP were a disaster. The Idaho Cattle Association’s Britney Hurst said yesterday: “We supported TPP and it would be extremely beneficial for the cattle industry.” So I talked with Rick Naerbout of the Idaho Dairymen’s Association: "We are disappointed as well. TPP wasn't great for us really in terms of giving us market access. At least not in the near-term future. Open up a lot of markets for us. There was a lot of volume anticipated to be moved because of TPP but one of our significant issues with the European Union is geographic indicators. TPP did help us on that front and it would have been a trade agreement that would not have impeded US products from being imported to those Trans Pacific Partner countries because of geographic indicators. There are some of those non-volume issues that it would have helped us on.
