China Buying US Beef

Trading beef with China. This might sound odd, but I always look forward to the Idaho Cattle Association Executive Update because it seems to fill us in on all things beef in Idaho. As I perused the most recent update, I came across this: “Chinese President Xi Jinping met with President Donald Trump over recently, where the two struck a deal to allow U.S. beef exports into China.  The trade deal ends the ban that has been in place since 2003. My feeling was, this is great news for Idaho ranchers so I called Britney Hurst, communications director for ICA. "China is a huge market and they have not dealt with us since 2003. They have been taking all of their beef from Australia and now that is going to change dramatically so I think it's a huge deal. As an industry, we have been working hard on this for the past 14 years so we are optimistic about the opportunities to sell beef into that area, into that country.”
