Perdue: Six-month time frame for NAFTA talks. Not to go all political but in retrospect, when I think about the presidential election, I believe strongly that the outcome was a voice from the nation saying, “no more of the same old thing.” Again, and this is only my opinion, I believe that voters thought Hillary Clinton would continue down the path that we have traveled for the last decade or so. One thing we did know with Pres. Trump was that things would be shaken up. And that has certainly come to pass. Let us take a look at the NAFTA agreements which the president openly, arduously and emphatically called the worst deal ever. He is still on the cusp of changing those agreements if not canceling them altogether and the agricultural community is more than unnerved by what the consequences might bear.

Agriculture Sec. Sonny Purdue said he expects a quick turnaround on renegotiation of the NAFTA agreement. Speaking to reporters, he said he envisions talks wrapping up this year. “We are looking at a six month period. Weeks and months, not years.” That time frame comes after President Trump was considering pulling the US from the deal altogether.
