American Farm Bureau Federation President Zippy DuVall and his wife Bonnie, recently toured Idaho to learn about Idaho agriculture. His visit started in Idaho Falls and ended in Coeur d’Alene. He started his tour by reminding people of his pledge: “ My campaign commitment was to go to all 50 states in the first two years of my presidency, get out to the grassroots and talk to farmers and volunteers across this country so that I could represent their issues by its experiencing it with them and hearing their stories.” His first stop was GPOD, a potato packing shed in Idaho Falls that ships spuds across America. “As the president of the AFBF I’m traveling through the states and talking about issues our producers are facing and the companies that serve them. That’s why I was interested in coming and visiting with you today. looking for the presence of globa dara.” Potato school also included a stop at the USDA APHIS lab to see the work being done on potato nematode research which is vital to keeping the Idaho potato crop healthy. “Even though the average consumer out there has no idea about the challenges the potato grower has in front of him when he is out in the field working, all of way to the time it is packaged and delivered to the grocery store.
