Verland Woemnper who raises Hereford cattle says involvement in 4-H is a good learning experience for kids and adults. Verland and his grandchildren raise prize steers and show them at northern Idaho’s state fair. It is quite an all encompassing activity to take care of and to show the families animals. His grandchildren are extremely involved. Verland says involvement in 4-H is a good learning experience for kids and adults. “Since they got into steers, and I raise cattle, I have found out that there is a new way of doing things. I’m from the old school, that’s what it is but I see the advantages of what you can learn and what is possible to learn by being in 4-H.” 4-H was founded in 1902 in Ohio and today has over 25 million alumni. To Verland’s point, the 4-H movement makes the claim that young people are the drivers of change—The young people of today are the farmers who will feed the world in 2050 and the 4?H high quality positive youth development experience is proven effective—with a 100-year history of agricultural and economic development.
