An annual event on sheep ranches across the West is shearing the wool from the sheep. On average, an adult sheep will yield about 10 pounds of wool. Worldwide about 1.3 million tons are produced each year with 60% of that used for clothing apparel. And that is where C&C Sutlery of Emmett enters the story of wool from farm to consumer. "This business got started 35 years ago. I was a civil war re-enactor and I started getting a little bored during the day so I thought, what do I want to do with my time. So I started putting tables out where we would sell equipment to the soldiers. Charles and Ellen Lox sell wool garments. Their website states, just like the traveling Sutler that plied his goods during the Civil War; when you need Civil War period clothing, Union Army Uniforms, Confederate (CSA) Uniforms, authentically reproduced Civil War era tents, reproduction Civil War weapons, Civil War buckles & breastplates, perfectly reproduced Civil War buttons, and Civil War Period Accessories C&C Sutlery has just what you need. "This is what they call the modified sack coat, similar to the Civil War but a little bit of a change for the Indian war. This particular item right here is a great coat. It is a long coat that was used to keep them warm in the winter. It is made out of wool fabric, approximately 20 ounce wool. This particular material right here is what we call jean wool. it is a product that they started using towards the end of the Civil War because they were running out of 100% wool and they started mixing wool with cotton, that's why they call it jean wool.
