Old buddy Mike Jenkins of Upfront Outfitters can take you on a great hunt. "I grew up hunting Roosevelt elk and now for the grand slam club and the species hunters, the Roosevelt elk is a hot item and because I am good at it, that made my decision. These are over-the-counter tags, I can get tags anywhere, I don't have to apply for the draw and now I can have at least a regulated number of clients. Roosevelt, a lot different than Rocky Mountain elk hunting. You're in the rain forest, it's wet, dense, thick stuff but it's a great and rewarding hunt with a lot of elk. It's different from the Rocky Mountain elk because they live in more open country. Anywhere east of the Cascade Mountains is more open compared to the west side. Dense, dense jungle, visibility is often only 50 yards in the thick timber. So if they're not out in a logging clear-cut or something, then it's all skill hunting in through the timber and most of our bow shots and rifle shots are about the same distance, 40 to 50 yards.
