A safety tip from Josh Mills for fly fishing on slippery rocks in a stream bed. "Being a big guy, it's always a bit dangerous to step in a river and find it very slippery even if you do have felt soled wading boots. Something you can do to improve your traction and stability and safety on the river is to look into a company called Goat Head Sole Spikes™. I met Matt Brown last year at a fly tackle dealers association tradeshow and they cannot be more excited to show their product off. It is a set of 30 engineered screws and a driver that comes with it and you end up taking 15 and 15 and place them into your wading boots. They also have a great adaptation for trail running and winter activities. The way that the screws are is that they thread up into the sole of your boot and clamp in. Any time you can improve traction from a wading standpoint, it is going to make your life a lot better because there is nothing worse than standing on a rock and feeling like you are moving around on greased snot. Check them out at solespikes.com. Look at all of the reviews, Field and Stream named them one of their favorite products.
