Remember that old commercial? What would you like for breakfast? Nut and honey. Meaning the cereal. The National Honey Board is among the producer funded commodity checkoff programs with oversight by the Agriculture Department. And as Margaret Lombard of the Honey Board points out a main part of any checkoff board's existence is promotion of their commodity. “We're trying to tell the American people all the unique ways to use honey, how it can be used in different recipes…” With additional nutritional, educational and fun facts. For instance, why does your honey have a hint of radish in its taste.

“We love to tell the story of varietals. There's over 300 varieties of honey in the U.S. alone and they all come from different floral sources. So there's orange blossom or Buckwheat or Berry or radish or cranberry every honey is unique.”

And check off dollars for the National honey board go into research to approve and protect honeybee populations at habitat.

We also fund projects that help people understand that eating honey is actually good for bees.Margaret Lombard of the National Honey Board
