02/03/06 Mark Harris, YFR Chairman, part two

Mark and Cheryl Harris are expanding their role with Idaho Young Farmers and Ranchers. Mark is now serving as this year's chairman. Cheryl jokes that he goes to meetings, she gets to do the grunt work. CHERYL "I'm happy that he's now state chairman. The biggest thing is going to be phone calls and mailings, make sure everyone knows about activities and what's going on." Mark got involved, learned all he could, took part in an internship program in Boise during one legislative session. He saw Farm Bureau's influence firsthand. MARK "That was an eye opener to me. The legislators have a lot of respect for Farm Bureau and they care about what the members think. Farm Bureau is able to get a milk producer from Bruneau, a seed potato grower from Driggs and a cowboy from Malad, get them in a room together and come out with a policy that most everybody can agree with, not always, but most of the time. That's where Farm Bureau gets its power." This young couple from southeast Idaho and five others are this year's leaders in the YFR program. Over the next couple of weeks we'll introduce you to the five district chairman representing all corners of Idaho. Voice of Idaho Agriculture Bill Scott
