02/23/06 Governor`s Award Winner, Nelson

Doctor Greg Nelson was recently honored with a Governor's Award for lifetime achievement in agriculture. NELSON "Order These days Nelson's supposed retirement is spent at his Red Eye Bar and Grill in Kuna where he's cooking up breakfast for his customers. NELSON "Ham and cheese omelet, we've got bacon and eggs, we've got biscuits and gravy, toast, so there's a number of different groups we're supporting." After completing his military service which included a stint in Vietnam working with army search dogs Nelson came to Idaho and begin a short stint as a veterinarian. Later he'd go to work for the state, becoming state veterinarian and eventually the director of the Idaho Department of Agriculture. Nelson retired last year after his tenure as a lobbyist for the Farm Bureau. Greg' grandson Andrew obviously looks up to his grandpa. ANDREW "Grandpa would always play that game with us called 'name that crop' and he would ask what crop is that and so I'm pretty familiar with all the crops that are grown around here in Idaho. He's taught me a lot of the things that I know." Doctor Greg Nelson, Governor's Award winner for lifetime achievement in agriculture.
