Idaho Farm Bureau County Presidents gathered in Kellogg, Idaho at the Silver Mountain Resort for their annual summer conference. The Resort is home to America’s largest gondola with a 3.1 mile journey from Kellogg to the mountain house at the top, where the meeting itself took place. Business at hand included updates on political issues, water rights and supply, leadership training and market reports on various commodities . Farmers from across Idaho shared what’s going on in various regions. Brian Searle from the Upper Snake River Basin reported crops are early. he and his crew started cutting regularly, around the 31st of July. he was harvesting hard red winter and said it looks like a decent yield. Farmer and friend Syd Freeman told everyone about the Treasure Valley. Sid said that things around his place started early as well and he was very surprised early on in the spring that he had tens of thousands breaking through and never thought it was going to be that good. Even the high country of Teton County is harvesting early according to Stephen Begley of Victor: He stated that things have been early and great with both grain and hay. They cut hay in the first crop two or three weeks earlier than they usually do. He added that most of his neighbors are finished and other guys are wrapping things up. President Begley says there is a lot to learn at the summer meeting: “As the county president, this is a great time and an opportunity for me to keep learning and to keep up on the activities are going on and also that anything that is happening around the state and the nation is critical to me the county president.”
