Significant changes to federal Worker Protection Standard (WPS) are scheduled to go into effect on January 2, 2017. These regulations directly impact operators of farms, forestry operations, nurseries and greenhouses, and employees in these industries. To help educate the regulated community, the Idaho State Department of Agriculture will be hosting 13 WPS seminars throughout the state during October and November. Here is ISDA spokesperson Luis Urias:

The seminars will be focused on agricultural operators. Pesticide dealers, professional pesticide applicators and labor contractors who provide services to agricultural establishments are also highly encouraged to attend. Training sessions for agricultural workers will be scheduled at a later date.

Designed to protect agricultural workers and their families from pesticide exposure, the WPS was first implemented by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency in 1992. It was recently revised for the first time in over 20 years. Each WPS educational seminar will be two hours long and held at locations across the state.
