An Event that Celebrates The All Around Horse
Mounted shooting, roping, reining cutting, jumping, barrels, dressage, gaming, if you like horses trust me, there’s a riding discipline to fit your personality. Problem is just like high school sports today you pretty much have to specialize to be able to compete. That goes for horses as well as riders. A horse that can jump the moon, can’t run barrels. There is an exception and it might just be the perfect venue if you own a horse that is well rounded and calm. I’ll be back to tell you about it on today’s Open Range. Welcome back, I’m Susan Allen and I’m finding a lot of my friends are interested in the new sport of Ranch Horse Versatility. It originated when a group of people thought it a travesty that halter bred and show quarter horses were worthless outside of an arena especially when Americas horse was originally developed to be a ranchers right hand. So the Ranch Horse Versatility became a to celebrate the animal that can excel in five categories that are found on working ranches. Ranch riding, ranch trail, ranch cutting, working ranch horse and ranch confirmation. Any breed can be used but the ideal all around horse needs a good mind and should be handy with it’s feet plus cowy. No fancy equipment is necessary, working saddles and clean western attire is all fine. And If you are a novice don’t worry so are a lot of other folks, who are showing up at clinics throughout the Northwest mounted on everything from mustangs to Tennessee walkers.
