McDonalds Hoax
I’m Susan Allen welcome to Open Range, Nearly 2000 years ago the Apostle Paul challenged people to “test everything. His wisdom couldn’t be more applicable today when it comes to the destructive power of the internet. I’ll be back after the break. Last week I received an email that involved in the beef industry, as I’m sure many of you did as well. It’d called to boycott Mc Donald’s because the hamburger chain reportedly said Americas ranchers couldn’t produce enough meat to support their restaurants, thus they would be forced to import beef from South America. The writer (who posed as an animal science professor) also stated that the Texas Cattle Growers Association were endorsing his boycott. The red flag for me and should be for all of us) was when the email urged me to forward it to at least ten other people . Some simple fax checking found that yes the esteemed proff was originally duped as I almost was by the email and regrettably forwarded it to a college. Bad mistake, that simple action provided the anti-Mac group a way to fraudulently use his signature. The Texas Cattle growers posted a banner on their website stating they have nothing to do with the boycott. McDonalds CEO’s reported there is no validity and they will still be buying USA beef. Ah the poison and power of the internet to destroy individuals and corporations. So who do you think would want to targeting McDonalds? Kind of interesting that it’s number one competitor Burger King known for their controversial advertising was bought out by a Brazilian conglomerate. This latest Mc Donalds hoax is a good reminder that before boycott or bashing “test everything”.
