The wife of an oil tycoon hits a road block in her attempt to develop a sanctuary for BLM wild horses. I’m Susan Allen stay tuned for Open Range. Oilman T. Boone Pickens and his wife Madeline aren’t happy campers after she received thumbs down from the Bureau of Land Management regarding her dream of a wild horse sanctuary in Nevada, over basically, fifty bucks.  In a written statement on the agencies website, BLM director Bob Abbey stated that Pickens annual $500 per horse stipend is fifty dollars more than the agency currently spends per horse calling her plan too costly. The BLM also took issue with the fact they would have to create an exception allowing them to transfer title through sale or adoption to Pickens because they currently have a law that forbids reimbursing a private party for grazing former BLM horses.  This didn’t sit well with Ms. Pickens. On her Face book page she wrote she had been told over and over again by BLM officials that the eco-sanctuary would  save tax payers money and that Interior Secretary Ken Salazar has stated it is essential to reform the wild horse and burro program. Makes you wonder why our  government can shell out  billions for cash for clunkers and private sector General Motors bailout  but won’t spend a fraction of that to move ten thousand horses from deplorable holding pens to a  life of freedom on a  Nevada sanctuary that also will serve as educational facility and tourist destination for national and international wild horse enthusiasts.
