Why Is The Japanese Government So Heartless

I’m Susan Allen this is Open Range, one of my listeners alerted me to a tragic situation occurring right now in Japan involving their equine industry. Stay tuned.  Equestrians worldwide are outraged at the Japanese government and their racing industries lack of compassion for horses abandoned in the radiation zone in a rural region rich with horse traditions and many equines.  Apparently the animals have been abandoned in their stalls since the tragedy and the Japanese Officials  will not allow them to be fed, euthanized or moved. Under the guise of darkness horse breeder Shinjiro Tanaka sneaks into the restricted zones and attempts get to feed his horses, but he is finding it harder and harder as suppliers will no longer deliver to the red-lined  area.  Tanaka says it is breaking his heart to watch them starve. According to my source, “the Japanese racing industry is doing nothing to help the horses abandoned, yet  ironically Japanese investors just purchased the top selling yearlings at some of the racehorse sales, at close to $1 Million per horse.  The Japanese government will not allow feeding, nor removal, dead or alive, from the "nuclear zone". In short, by governmental edict these horses are being left to die a  long-drawn out and agonizing death. Why,  is simply beyond my comprehension. Yet it is the very reason some people, like Mr. Tanaka  are taking the risk of being arrested or shot on site, to try to help alleviate the suffering.  At this point the best tactic probably is to work to create global outrage within both the international horse and racing communities directed towards the Japanese Government and Japaneses Racing Commission with the hope they will

cave to political pressure and at the very least allow these poor creatures the dignity to be euthanized.
