Humane Watch's Parody Ad of HSUS for Pre-Super Bowl

One of the highlights for me of Super Bowl and the festivities surrounding it is the entertaining commercials. Wanted to give farmers and ranchers a heads up that the Humane Watch, a project of the nonprofit Center for Consumer Freedom, is airing a satirical Super Bowl commercial this weekend titled "Lawyers in Cages." The ad, which will air during pre-game prior to kickoff, parodies the Humane Society of the United States' commercials by illustrating that HSUS's priority isn't pets—it's politics.

Will Coggin, Director of Research at the Center for Consumer Freedom, says the commercial shows the truth behind HSUS.

Coggin: "Well it is something we've done before and frankly we really wanting to communicate at a time when people are noshing on chicken wings what the Humane Society really is and try to get through to people that, 'Hey this is a group you've seen their commercials on tv. You might even have given them money or your family may give them money thinking it is going to help cats and dogs; but instead this group is really not about running pet shelters. It doesn't run a single pet shelter and only 1 percent of its money goes to pet shelters. Instead the group is all about sort of animal rights and PETA-like lobbying agenda that involves a lot of litigation and a lot of lobbying. We wanted to find a humorous way to communicate that and certainly the Super Bowl is a great time to do that."

He urges people who want to support shelter pets to give to their local shelters where the funds can really make a difference.
