Positive Pasture and Rangeland Conditions

It is very positive news for the nation's pasture and rangeland conditions this week. According to NASS weekly crop progress report's, only a handful of states are experiencing very dry conditions.USDA meteorologist Brad Rippey says the areas that currently report good to excellent conditions for pastures and rangelands include much of the United States.

Rippey: "There is really too many states to mention that are at least 80 percent good to excellent on the pasture and range conditions. I'll just pick out a few: in the Mid-West Ohio, Illinois, Iowa and Wisconsin all at 80 percent or great. That goes along with some states in the Northwest and the Northeast as well. You really have to go to a just a few dry pockets Florida — worth mentioning is only 11 percent good to excellent."

In Idaho Pasture and range conditions were reported to be 1% poor, 16% fair, 57% good, and 26% excellent.

In Oregon Pasture and range conditions were reported to be 2% poor, 26% fair, 51% good and 21% excellent.

In Washington Pasture and range conditions were reported at, 2% poor, 18% fair, 62% good, and 18% excellent.

In Colorado pasture and range conditions were at 4 percent poor to very poor, 28 percent fair, 58 percent good and 10 percent excellent — which was more positive than both last year at this time and the five-year average.
