Friday is a Key Deadline for 2017 Census of Agriculture

There is an important deadline coming up concerning participation in the Census of Agriculture survey. Pork Checkoff spokesperson Cindy Cunningham encourages all farmers to participate.

Cunningham: "The census of agriculture is taking every five years. It's a complete count of U.S. farmers and ranchers and the people who operate those farms and ranchers. It's important because it is the only source uniform, comprehensive and impartial agricultural data for every county in the nation. This information is used to make decisions that will help shape the future of agriculture."

To participate, the deadline to sign up is this Friday, June 30th.

Cunningham: "The deadline to sign up to be counted is June 30th. Then in December look for that 2017 Census of Agriculture form in the mail. Then in February of 2018 the deadline to complete your census of agriculture will happen with being able to respond either online or through the mail. To sign up it is important that everyone in agriculture call 888-424-7828 or visit agcensus.usda.gov."

The results of the Census of Agriculture will be available in aggregate form only, keeping everyone's individual information confidential.
