Wildfire Reform

For your Land and Livestock Report, I'm Susan Allen. Montana's Senator Steve Daines a Republican was on the floor of the Senator recently pleading for wildfire reform for the West. He had some pretty harsh words for the DC crowd.

We need forest management reform urgently.Thos of us out west are on the back burner of the swamp here in Washington DC, until of course, we get to fire season and then folks are talking about us some. We must reform the way we manage our national forests so we can use proven tactics to reduce the threat of wildfires as well as reduce the rate of spread and intensity as they occur. We are talking about dying and dead timber and we can't even get in and manage the timber because we have these far left groups that will challenge many of our timber sales in court.

I have joined Senator Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota in sponsoring legislation that encourages partnerships between the forest service and the state foresters to carry out these cross boundary restoration projects. You know a fire does not respect boundaries. They don't know where the state land ends or the federal Land begins or private land is where the reservation lands are. We need to be able to work with better neighbors on the fence Line.

Montana is home to the nations 10 largest wildfires.
