Phony hunts and guides

Mike Jenkins owns Upfront Outfitters in Washington state and does not have a lot of tolerance for phony outfitters and hunting schemes."When I look around at today's guides market, there are guides everywhere. When I started in this business, there weren't a ton of guides. Most of us were known by each other but now the market is saturated with guides and everybody is an expert. But the really not experts even though they say they are. I want people to come out here who really want to learn from an expert who has been doing this for years and not be sold on the TV hype. They just had a guy who was all over the magazines for getting some great big giant bull elk and it turns out that the truth was, he got it in a game farm. Then he wrote an article about what a great public land hunt it was and you see that all the time these days. People aren't interested in hunting, they are interested in being famous and killing. I'm a hunter. I don't care if I don't get an animal because I know that I will sooner or later fill my freezer because I am a hunter. That's what I want people to learn. This is what we need to do to fill our freezer. Tthis is what we need to do to be successful and you're not going to learn how by watching a TV show or reading an article.

The irony is the way I met Mike in the first place was when I was hosting a television show on the Outdoor Channel called Outfitter Showcase. Hope he doesn't think I'm a phony.
