Hi everybody it’s time for your Land and Livestock Report, here on the Ag Information Network of the West-I’m Russell Nemetz.

It isn’t very often that you have the chance to meet and visit with a real life space cowboy but that’s exactly what I did recently. It’s often said that space is the final frontier…but after a successful career in aviation…former NASA astronaut Frank Borman launched a new career…this time as a rancher in Southern Montana.

"I got a call one day from Fred and his brother Edwin. They said we've been hunting up in Montana and we think you oughta move to Montana. I said, Huh?"

As commander of Apollo 8, Frank along with fellow astronauts Jim Lovell and Bill Anders became the first humans to reach the moon in December of 1968. He says space exploration was completely different then compared to what it is today.

"There was a battle with the Soviet Union to get to the moon first and that was my mission at that time. We were warriors in the Cold War."

Next year Frank will celebrate his 90th birthday and 2018 is also the 50th Anniversary of the Apollo 8 mission.

That’s your Land and Livestock Report-I’m Russell Nemetz.
