Hi everybody it’s time for your Wednesday Agri Beef Minute here on the Ag Information Network of the West-I’m Russell Nemetz.

Well, last week we talked about using embryo transfers in today’s beef cattle industry to deliver the consumer a consistent and high-quality product. With us again is Agri Beef’s Double R Ranch Livestock Program Assistant Garrett Tschida to explain the process of embryo transfers.

“Embryo transfer is a complicated process. It takes a lot of time and dedication to the job. First you get the cattle synchronized so you know what stage they are in their cycle so you’re most successful in the process. Following that you administer drugs in order to make sure the follicles have enough stimulation in order to produce an active and good ova to be released for fertilization. Once the cattle are bred, seven days later we go in and flush the embryos out of the reproductive tract of the female and then go into a grading process where we determine how viable that embryo is and how successful it potentially could be when put in a recipient cow that’s going to carry that embryo. ”

Be sure to tune into next week’s Agri-Beef Minute as we’ll check back in with Garrett and talk about synchronization in cattle.
