A cute little duck with no name could soon become famous. “The American Farm Bureau is putting together another social media campaign and it is all about this little duck and WOTUS.” WOTUS, Waters of the United States. Since 2015, it has been a big issue for landowners, farmers and ranchers and other water user interests opposed to new rules that allow government authority over all water right down to the low spot on the farm come spring thaw. “This little puddle of water, what is it? It’s just waste water from rain. Oh that water is cold still.” Neil Durrant is participating in the Farm Bureau media campaign at his farm and grain elevator operation in the high desert of Idaho. Water is his lifeblood. The duck with no name is a fit on his farm. “We live in a desert area and without water we couldn’t grow anything. Water is our most important commodity that we have growing crops and I think the EPA is just trying to put their finger in another regulation that we have to abide by and more paperwork and more government oversight on things that we really don’t need. I think there are bigger issues out there that they should be worrying about instead of the little puddles of water across the United States.” The social media campaign has an outreach of over 6 million members nationwide and a duck with no name. “Somewhere on your farm, take a picture of this little duck. Send it. As you can see on this piece of paper there are little hashtags and directions. But take this duck home and let’s get really creative because this rule is popping back up.
