Good friend Scotty Cyr went on an elk hunt and had to remain patient. “Missed the first shot. It was 50 yards, dead on in a field. I was excited and put in the 50 yard pin and zipped one right off the top of his back and I was thinking what went wrong. Then I thought to myself, duh, he’s downhill, it’s a downhill shot. So the arrow is not traveling 50 yards on the horizontal because gravity only acts on the horizontal. So he stepped out to around 60. The arrow skipped off his back and stuck in a tree behind him. He spun around and looked at the tree where the arrow hit. Then he took a couple of leaps then stopped. He was looking around because there were a couple of cows in the area. I was able to knock another arrow and it was game over. Double lungs and he dropped in 10 seconds.
