We have heard from Rep. Vicky Hartzler before... (R-MO) "I am a farmer and also a former home economics teacher where I taught nutrition science for 11 years." She is an ag friendly politician who has recently

published an opinion editorial in support of the US-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA). This time it's not ag but she is highlighting the positive impact the agreement will have on the American auto industry.

The agreement, which is currently going through legislative and parliamentary processes in both Mexico and Canada, will invest approximately $34 billion over 5 years in automotive research and development and surrounding industries, will provide safeguards for U.S. wage earners against cheap labor from abroad, and will require 75 percent of automobile components be made in North America in order to take advantage of the tariff-free benefits.

In the piece, Hartzler said that under the new USMCA, we are creating a freer, fairer, global economic environment. The USMCA is the right deal for Missouri and the right deal for America. I hope Congressional Democrats will join with my Republican colleagues to pass this agreement." In the op-ed, Hartzler urged her Democratic colleagues to hold a vote on the USMCA, saying that it would easily pass the House if given the chance. Both Mexico and Canada have already begun their enactment processes with the agreement having been introduced in their respective parliamentary chambers. Speaker Nancy Pelosi, however, has not yet brought the agreement for discussion or a vote.
