NAFTA or no NAFTA, I can tell you one thing, the US sends of a lot of corn to Mexico. Dr. Jaya Jha (Cha) Professor of Economics at Colby College reeled off some numbers for me and they are impressive. "In 2011, Mexico imported about 8.6 million tons of US corn, in 2015 it imported about 11.8 million tons and in 2016, it imported 13.9 million tons of U.S.corn. If you need some numbers on the share of US corn exports before and after NAFTA, five-year averages, I can tell you those as well. On average, between 1976 and 1980, Mexico imported about 3.5% of US corn, from 1986 to 1990, Mexico imported about 6.8% of US corn, then right after NAFTA, the average from 1996 to 2000, Mexico imported about 10% of US corn and the average value from 2006 two 2010, Mexico imported 115.16% of US corn and the average from 2011 to 2016, Mexico imported 24.2% of US corn." That's the percentage of total exports by the US.
