Jo Lynne Seufer, Risk Management Specialist gave me a tutorial on the Federal Crop Insurance Corporation. "It can be anywhere from workshops to online webinars, radio broadcasts reminding producers of self closing dates for crop insurance policies or other kinds of broadcasts about don't forget about managing risk on the farm and getting that liability insurance. That may be totally outside the crop insurance world but it is also managing risk on the farm. We partner with University of Idaho, ISDA, Oregon State, Washington State, we fund WSU a lot. Right now, we are funding the dry peas and lentils counsel. They have a big web tool that they are putting together and it is to help all of the dry pea and dry bean growers in Montana and over to North Dakota. Commodity groups and nonprofits apply. This all goes clear back to the 1996 Farm Bill and during that Farm Bill is when Congress said we need to do away with the direct subsidy programs that we have known for the last 60 or 70 years. They said they are going to come out and start educating farmers about risk.
