Biochar has long been used as a carbon rich soil enhancer in agriculture and Cool Planet Regional Account Manager Jerry VanElderen is here to explain.

Widely acknowledge for its potential to support soil health. However, some critics spread concern over biochar for its inconsistency. So, what’s the deal with biochar?

Biochar has shown an ability to benefit yield, but studies have shown that it often behaves unpredictably.

Biochar is a term applied to a wide variety of materials. Meaning, it could be made from wood, yard waste, chicken litter, you name it. Typically, biochar is produced through a process called pyrolysis, which is burning organic matter in the absence of oxygen. But, the pyrolysis process has many variables, thus additionally creating variability in biochar.

Ultimately, many conditions impact the final nature of ‘biochar’ and its efficacy and value in soil.

At Cool Planet, we see soil as the foundation for productivity, so we spent years researching biochar’s potential benefit and identified technological processes to enhance biochar into a predictable, reliable, and effective soil health tool.

Through modern manufacturing techniques to select the proper biomass and manufacture it to a specification, we engineered a ground-breaking technology to improve soil health. We call it Cool Terra.

To engineer Cool Terra, we use carefully selected raw biochar, and post-treat it to adjust the pH, flip it from hydrophobic to hydrophilic, remove hydrocarbon and other detrimental residues and toxins and size the material for use in today’s modern agricultural application equipment.

Cool Terra provides farmers an additional tool in their soil health toolbox. It provides a way for growers to build soil organic matter to enhance soil vitality in the first season and for many seasons thereafter.

Cool Terra works to improve plant yield and quality and provide long-lasting soil structure and sustainability by unlocking key soil performance characteristics. The best part is, Cool Terra works! Providing growers on average a 12% improvement in yield compared to the grower standard.

Its porosity, ion exchange capacity, durability, and pore-size distribution optimizes water retention, builds lasting soil structure, provides an environment for microbial growth, and sequesters carbon

Cool Terra is registered for sale in all 50 states and is available for purchase through your local ag retailer
