An excellent invention. Lynn Williams told me how he came to inventing a technology that kills Varroa mites which are a primary culprit in colony collapse disorder. "I have spent 44 years in industrial automation and how this got started is a really good friend of mine was a pastor who lives down the road and knew I had quite a few bees and I was explaining to him the problems with the mite and the survival rate of three bees and the mites have become immune to the pesticides and for 17 years I refused to put pesticides in my beehives because it weakens the bees and his comment to me was well you dealing with technology you ought to go to work on this problem and that was about 2 1/2 years ago. I started studying mites and I found a study in Europe that was first started in 2002. They experimented with raising the temperature in the beehive and see how it affected the mites. When you get above 104° and you can maintain 104° to 106° it completely exterminates the mites. it brings no harm to the queen, no harm to the eggs, no harm to the brood that is capped in the hive body which is where they raise all their bees so I went to work on this and developed this product.”

The product is a very simple heating system that sits under the beehive and raises the temperature inside to levels that are lethal to mites.
