This is Matt Rice with the Market Line Report for Jan. 16th. Taking a look at the cattle market over the week, prices continue to climb. Let's check in with Greg Sanders as he goes over the weekly cattle market review with the USDA.

Sanders "National Slaughter Cattle Review for Thursday Jan. 12th, 2017. For Thursday in the Texas Panhandle and Nebraska, trading was inactive with light demand. In the Western Corn Belt, trading was limited with light demand. In Kansas and Colorado, trading was at a standstill. Not enough sales for a full market sale in any feeding region. The slaughter steers on the Choice, 80% sold from $1.17 - $1.19 on a live basis and heifers sold $1.17 on a live basis. On the carcass basis choice sold at $1.86."

Chicago markets, July wheat prices closed the day up 1 ¼, at 454 ¾. Chicago July Corn prices were up ¾, to close the day at 369. Prices in Portland for Soft White Winter Wheat of ordinary protein for May were unch – up 2 ½, ranging from 4-50 to 4-61 ¾. Hard Red Winter Wheat with 11.5 % protein, future prices for April were dn ¾, ranging from 5-41 to 5-46. DNS Wheat with 14 % protein, prices for April were up 15-5, ranging from 6-85 ¾ to 6-90 ¾. June Live Cattle closed the day up $1.20 at 107.95. April Feeder cattle were up $1.55, at 128.82 ½. March class III milk was dn 20 cents at 17-46.
