Hay Update for the Pacific Northwest

Here with the weekly hay update is USDA Grain and Livestock Reporter Greg Sanders shares last week’s hay report.
Sanders: “For the Columbia Basin hay report, we had 25,691 tons reported this week. Alfalfa for domestic and export sales were steady to $5 lower. According to the USDA NASS report issued June 30, 2014, all of the hay acres is up 160,000 from 2013 level.s Alfalfa were up 60,000 acres from 2013 and other hay was up 100,000 from 2013. Premium export Alfalfa sold for $235 to $245 this week. Good export Alfalfa sold from $230 to $235. Retail alfalfa for feed stores sold for $275. And Timothy for export sale on the large square bales sold at $280 a ton on the premium grade.”
In Idaho compared to the previous week alfalfa was stead to week with trade being moderate to active. Demand remains good. According to the USDA-NASS report issued June 30, 2014 all hay in Idaho is down 10,000 acres from 2013 levels. Alfalfa acreage is down 40,000 acres from 2013 and other hay is up 30,000 acres from 2013.      
In Oregon prices were generally steady compared to previous week's offerings for the same quality. Trading increased significantly during the week, as compared to previous week. Most locations have started second harvest.
