Weekly PNW Hay Update

Here with the weekly hay update is USDA Grain and Livestock Reporter Greg Sanders who shares last week’s hay report.
Sanders: “For the Columbia Basin hay report, we had 52,000 tons of hay trade of alfalfa for domestic and export markets were steady for the week. The Washington State Hay Association is handling all requests for any parties wishing to donate hay or any other forage to those areas affected by the recent fires in the state. Alfalfa supreme domestic hay sold for $260 this week. Premium export hay sold from $237 to $245.”
In Idaho alfalfa sales were steady to weak compared to the previous week with trade being moderate. Demand was light to moderate as the grain markets continue to show weakness. Large alfalfa square bales supreme ranged from $200 to $260. Timothy premium in large square bales sold for $260 a ton.
In Oregon compared to the previous week, prices were narrowly mixed but mostly steady for sales of the same quality. The volume of trading was smaller but demand remains good with some producers delaying sales of their harvest in anticipation of higher prices in the future. Supreme alfalfa sold in small square bales sold for $250 a ton. Large Square Alfalfa sold from $230 to $250 a ton.
