Seeking Board Members & Dams Cited for Removal

Seeking Members & Dams Cited for Removal. I’m Greg Martin with today’s Northwest Report.
A pair of abandoned dams on the Rogue River seem to be on track for removal. Both Fielder and Wilder dams have been falling to age and their removal would open up prime wild salmon and steelhead spawning habitats for the Basin. WaterWatch of Oregon, whose mission is to protect and restore rivers, is hoping the Oregon Watershed Enhancement Board approves a nearly $463-thousand dollar grant request. They estimate it will take $671-thousand dollars to remove both dams.
A number of Oregon Commodity Commission’s are looking for public members and if you have anything to do with agriculture, please don’t apply. According to Kris Anderson, manager of ODA’s Commodity Commission Program, these public board positions are very important.
ANDERSON: We have public members who are agronomists or field reps. We have bankers, financiers, chefs, public relations people, writers. They all bring something to each commodity. They have to already have an interest in that commodity and want to learn more about it. And they see the potential in a commodity and want to give back to the group of growers of that commodity by giving their time at the commission. They have to have the time, it’s not just the interest. They have to have the time.
