Delisting the Gray Wolf & Haystack Fire

Delisting the Gray Wolf & Haystack Fire. I'm Greg Martin with today's Northwest Report.

Representative Dan Newhouse has introduced a bill to delist the gray wolf. The move, according to Newhouse, would benefit livestock producers in the northwest.

NEWHOUSE: Delisting means it takes it off the protection list, it's no longer on the endangered list and so it would actually open up more avenues for control of problem animals. There is a great deal of interest on the part of producers in the State of the Washington to do just this as well as our state Fish & Wildlife agencies. So this is an effort to help that process along and give the producers, communities the tools to protect themselves if in fact they feel threatened or are threatened.

Newhouse believes the bill should get some traction gain some support.

A haystack fire at a Grandview, Washington dairy appears to be intentionally set according to officials. Other haystacks were in danger due to high winds in the area but responders managed to cool the fire so dairy workers could remove the unburned hay. Damage was valued at $162,000. Firefighters looked at several clues including where the fire originated and the age of the hay that led them to the conclusion it was set on purpose.
