Delisting The Wolf & Killing Eagles

Delisting The Wolf & Killing Eagles. I'm Greg Martin with today's Northwest Report.

We've heard of bears and cougars and wolves encroaching on urban areas as well as attacks on livestock but the wolf issue is especially volatile since the gray wolf has been on the endangered species list. Dealing with attacks have been difficult due to the nature of the ESA listing. U.S. Representative Dan Newhouse from Washington has introduced legislation that would de-list the gray wolf and received a lot of support.

NEWHOUSE: I've received strong support also from our state Fish and Wildlife. They sent a letter supporting my legislation to delist the gray wolf. As you know they have already been delisted in the Eastern third and so it does cause confusion there. I'm optimistic. Like I said, there's a lot of support moving forward, I'm hopeful we can get this done.

A northern Idaho man may face a one-year jail sentenced and be fined $100-thousand dollars after authorities discovered he had violated the Bald & Golden Eagle Protection Act. A search of the 23-year old's residence found two bald eagles, two golden eagles, two rough-legged hawks, two red-tailed hawks and a large number of eagle and hawk feathers. The suspect plead guilty to the charges in federal court.
