Last week, the U.S. House of Representative's approved legislation requiring either an on-packages label or smart-label that directs consumers to more information via their smart phone, sending the legislation to the President's desk.

The vote is seen as a victory for the agriculture and food processing industries.

However, Washington State Republican Representative Dan Newhouse acknowledged the legislation is far from perfect.

Newhouse added there wasn't enough time to improve the Senate bill.

Ag Secretary Tom Vilsack has reportedly been a big supporter of the smart-label technology included in the Senate bill.

The White House said last week that President Obama will sign the compromise legislation.

The Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department said Monday that the state's most recent case was a man in his 20s who recently traveled to Puerto Rico, the New Tribune of Tacoma reported. The man returned from Puerto Rico last Wednesday. The man, whose identity has not been released, was not hospitalized and is recovering, health officials said.
